On March 28th, 2023 the implementation of technical guidance for management of stranded marine mammals and the ethics code for dolphin watching tour at the Balai Banjar of Kalibukbuk Village, Buleleng Regency, Bali Province went smoothly. The technical guidance organized by Westerlaken Foundation/Yayasan Bali Bersih collaborated with Balai Pengelolaan Sumber Daya Pesisir dan Laut (BPSPL) Denpasar was attended by Tour Guide Groups, Joint Business Groups, Monitoring Community Groups, Fisheries Extension, and all Stakeholders who have contributed to the preservation of dolphins in Lovina waters and surrounding Lovina waters.

Some technical guidance participants can also attend through the Zoom video conference so that knowledge and directions are conveyed effectively to all technical guidance participants.

The background of the technical guidance is the high incidence of stranding live mammals that end up dying in the working area of Balai Pengelolaan Sumber Daya Pesisir dan Laut (BPSPL) Denpasar from year by year and still continue to increase, so that optimal management is required with competent human resources in terms of procedures for manage the stranded marine mammals , as well as adequate management equipment.

The Lovina Beach area and its surrounding waters are areas with very high dolphin watching tour activities. The high tourism activity in the area, with no widespread understanding of good and safe ethics code for dolphin watching is feared that it will affect the changes of dolphin behavior, which will have a negative impact on the existence of dolphins.

As a form of prevention and solutions to these problems, Westerlaken Foundation/Yayasan Bali Bersih collaborated with Balai Pengelolaan Sumber Daya Pesisir dan Laut (BPSPL) Denpasar provided knowledge on Marine Tourism Village Management Policies, Marine Mammal Protection and Preservation Policies, Management of Stranded Marine Mammal Incidents in Balai Pengelolaan Sumber Daya Pesisir dan Laut (BPSPL) Denpasar working area and the Dolphin watching tour ethics code. Dolphin tour watching plan, and Introduction to Marine Mammals and the management of Marine Mammals.

After delivering knowledge and as the closing of technical guidance activities, participants were invited to practice/simulate the handling of stranded marine mammals directly in the coastal area. The practice is guided by Yayasan Jaringan Satwa Indonesia accompanied by Balai Pengelolaan Sumber Daya Pesisir dan Laut (BPSPL) Denpasar and Westerlaken Foundation/Yayasan Bali Bersih.
