A concerned student notified us about turtles being kept in a restaurant in Kedongonan. We investigated the case and found 4 seaturtles and a number of baby sea turtles in a small confinement. It turned out the turtles are in ‘custody’ of the next door governmental BPKP2K. They confirmed that the turtles were taken from the beach to show to anyone who wants to see them.
There is no planning of release. We condemn any form of captivity and there is NO excuse to take healthy turtles from there habitat for the sake of human pleasure or to keep baby turtles in confinement and not release them. Socialization is planned in cooperation with WWF Indonesia , but we keep monitoring this case till those poor animals are free!
