Since January 26, 2022, Westerlaken Foundation/Yayasan Westerlaken Alliance Indonesia has been conducting weekly water quality tests. The objective of this study is to provide valuable information regarding the condition of water quality at Petitenget Beach, Mertasari Beach, and Batu Bolong Beach to the local coastal community, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the government. The aim is to raise awareness about the potential impacts of poor water quality on marine life and, subsequently, on human health, particularly for those who consume marine food.

Starting in 2024, water quality checks at Mertasari beach and Batubolong beach will no longer be carried out (see the publication).  Water inspections continued at Mertasari beach and Serangan waters (seapen).

The research methodology employed in this study utilizes the Most Probable Number (MPN) Method, adhering to the quality standards specified in Pergub Bali No. 16 Tahun 2016 concerning Environmental Quality Standards and Criteria for Environmental Damage. It is important to note that this research has been carried out in compliance with government regulations, as evidenced by the research permit with the number B.30.070/685.E/IZIN-C/DPMPTSP.
