DNA Test Result on Whale Stranded on Pasut Beach

Throwing back to the whale stranding event on February 21, 2022, in Pasut Beach, Kerambitan, Tabanan, Bali, we have submitted the DNA sample we took with the permission of the BPSPL Denpasar, to be tested at Bionesia on March 23, 2022. The DNA test report that came back on April 25, 2022, confirms the species was indeed a Bryde’s Whale (Balaenoptera edeni) as we first suspected. With the continuous monitoring we are doing with the help of local fishermen in the area, we know that the pod on Bryde’s Whales inhabits the water of west Bali. The last survey we did was in March, where we encountered 7 Bryde’s Whales in the area.

The DNA test result that we collected has been uploaded to our DNA Stranding database, and can be accessed here.
